One of the delights of doing sermon work across the years was finding that scripture that struck fire in me and burned with great meaning. This was what I worked on for the sermon. No matter what are the life conditions, to delight in the Word of Truth and Goodness renews the spirit and total being of a person. Have a DELIGHT-FULL DAY.

GOOD MORNING. This is the first Sunday in Advent. In the secular culture it means a lot of profit in the sales departments of stores across the land. Many people run to get their favorite bargain and some will literally fight to get there first. In the midst of all this behavior others will quietly gather in places of worship or sit quietly at home and ponder the stories that tell us of God's unfailing love for each person and all humanity. We are reminded that Holy Spirit is with us, embracing, encouraging, renewing, inspiring, forgiving, calling, confronting, calming, balancing us, and we need not fight to get ahead of one another because in Providence there is enough for everyone. In Advent we can share in delivering Eternal Love to whomsoever we meet along the way…….

This something was the saving power and sustaining power of Jesus Christ." -- When I read these words this morning it hit me in a fresh way how very important it is that we are influenced by other persons. The life and influence of Jesus Christ has been the subject of debate, argument, acceptance and rejection ever since he walked the dusty roads of Palestine. But the simple truth is that this human being was so in sinc with the Spirit of God that they were one and the same. It is that reality that carries through the years to this moment. It is not that his influence is leap frogging from his time here to now, but that he influenced persons of his day and so from generation to generation persons have come under that influence and been transformed. When Jesus says, "You are light of the world….." he is addressing the reality that as he has influenced those of his day so do we influence in our time for the Spirit of Truth flows endlessly and becomes personal in each human who says YES to "God is Love." ------ well, just some ponderings this morning…..

(Peace and Conflict Studies) -- I see this acted out in countries today where the masses demonstrate for fair access to powers of government. And in our own country we expect the time will come when demonstrating groups of persons and government leaders will begin negotiations. Out of this can come a better understanding and hopefully improved situations. In a free society there will always be tension between the person on the street and the government. This is necessary in holding one another accountable. A free press is part of this dynamic.
