Fwd: thought

During a ABC news report Charles Gibson reported on a interview with Dr. Billy Graham. He said of Dr. Graham, "HE IS PHYSICALLY WEAK BUT SPIRITUALLY STRONG." ---  We are body, mind, spirit as we live in the setting of this world. While the body and mind will eventually fade the spirit can grow stronger. Spirit is ageless. Spirit is the Forever in us……wisdom teaches us to nurture a healthy spirit…..

> "….OBNOXIOUS BEHAVIOR….IS REALLY A CRY FOR HELP." THIS THOUGHT GOT MY ATTENTION THIS MORNING AS I READ THE STORY. I THINK PERSONS ARE AT THE CORE DECENT BUT A PERSON'S REACTION TO THE CRUDE OF LIFE RESULTS IN BEHAVIOR THAT IS UNPLEASANT AND SOMETIME HARMFUL. THE CORE PRINCIPLE OF "GOOD NEWS" IS THAT GOD LOVES US, EMBRACES US, FORGIVES US, LIBERATES US TO BE OUR TRUE SELVES AS WE ARE MEANT TO BE IN HE IMAGE OF THE ONE WHO CREATED US. -- HAVE A PLEASANT TRIP IN YOUR JOURNEY OF LIFE TODAY!!

What I Really Know About … GRANDMOTHER’S COOKING

Ancestral food – that’s what we name those special dishes that evoke fond childhood memories of times past.  “Gran-gran” lived a simple life in a simple home in southern Georgia.  When we traveled from “far away” in northern Georgia to visit her, there were always two certainties that greeted us, no matter what time of day or night we arrived.  One was her wide-armed hug which enveloped grandchildren she saw far too seldom.  The other was a collection of dishes prepared no doubt with love and anticipation of our arrival.
A meager budget required her to plan weeks in advance to feed the crowd.  But feeding the children and grandchildren with her special dishes was one of her ways of showing love.  The pie safe (hand built by my grandfather) held apple crisp, along with a white enamel bowl covering a pound cake made by hand from scratch (there was no modern mixer).  On the stove were white rice and field peas – a well known staple in that region of the country.  In the oven simmered an aromatic pot roast and onions baked for hours to fork-tender perfection.  A unique version of macaroni and cheese rounded out the feast that we savored at whatever hour we arrived.
Gran-gran passed away in 1975, but the memories and recipes of those ancestral foods lives on.  When we gather as an extended family, these dishes are always served at least once.  Now the great grandchildren ask for and love to cook some of the same foods.
The pie safe that held the sweets now holds a place of honor in my brother’s kitchen.  The white enamel bowl is no longer used as a cake cover, but is a treasured piece of my kitchen décor.  I’m not sure where the rice pot and roast pot are, but I bet they are in my dad’s collection of special treasures.
The recipes, which by today’s standards would not be deemed healthy, live on.  We may not eat those ancestral foods often as we strive for healthy living – but we do enjoy them still.  What does remain is a healthy memory of Gran-gran and the love she showered on us all with her special cooking.

> There is no need to ever be bored or to feel "put on the self" in our life journey because there is always some insight or perception of God's nature that is new for us to realize. I awaken to the early morning quiet time anticipating what will be the freshness of divine presence for me to realize today. ------ I came upon this thought in my reading this morning: "Men are disturbed not by things that happen, but by their opinions of the things that happen." Epictetus (55-135) was an emancipated slave and a Greek Stoic philosopher. In his own life journey, including slavery, he realized that his real freedom and power for living resided within himself. Someone else once said, "The Kingdom of God is within you…."

I learned a lot from him after the fact, but missed really getting to know him

THE MORE IGNORANT MEN ARE, THE MORE CONVINCED ARE THEY THAT THEIR LITTLE PARISH AND THEIR LITTLE CHAPEL IS AN APEX TO WHICH CIVILIZATION AND PHILOSOPHY HAS PAINFULLY STRUGGLED UP. (Shaw/CS Lewis writings) --  along the journey of the years I have known people with whom I got cross ways and I just turned them off. I never sat down one on one and talked, listened, shared. I think of one man in particular in a small church who was church treasurer but never would tell us how much money we had. I tried to force him and got no where. In retrospect I suspect the people gave so little he had to make up the difference, because he always kept the bills paid. Any way, I learned a lot from him after the fact, but missed really getting to know him. It was my ignorance at the time that kept the door closed …...

Papas post

I came upon this sentence in some of my reading and it sparks meaning in me: "But big decisions---are best made, ultimately,in the solitude of our own hearts."
