Doing Good Together in the Body of Christ

> "Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually." (1 Corinthians 12:27) - "But as for you….do not grow weary in doing good." (1Thessalonians 3:13) - In the first we hear the clear message that we are not in this alone. We are connected through our relationship with Christ. We are the continuation of His presence and work in the world, in each generation. In the second we hear that our work in this world is to do good wherever we are. This means we are never without a job. We can do good no matter our age or our state of health. Do not minimize you power to do good wherever you are. After two weeks of listening to political rhetoric I am keenly aware that the "body of Christ" people need to stay on the job and be alert to the need for doing good at all times….

Peace

Stop yourself when you are making your peace dependent on outer circumstances. (Dyer) 

More money, more security, more police presence still does not give the sure peace we yearn for.

Peace that comes from Spirit of truth/ Presence of God establishes us in inner peace….(John 14;25-27)

The Ground is Shifting

> The ground is shifting. Things are not staying in place. Even when I think things are settled they are changing again. It has been that way from the moment of my conception and even before that……there is no point or place in life where we can sit back and quit. It is imperative that I trust Author and Finisher of all creation. Then I don't quit but go with the flow/nature of creation. "The earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein." (Psalms 24: 1)- In these words I send my prayer that you experience the blessings of life all day long and forever.

Unfailing Inner Renewal

"….the place you are standing is holy ground." (Exodus 3:5) It was a ordinary day. Moses was doing his job tending his father-in-law's sheep. Suddenly he looks up and sees a bush burning yet it is not consumed by the fire. "what is going on here?" he says to himself. Moses walks toward the bush burning but not being burned up. There is a atmosphere that is strange, then he hears a voice: "stop where you are, take off your sandals, you are on holy ground." In this moment the Lord tells Moses he is concerned about his people living in slavery in Egypt. He wants Moses to go lead them to freedom.  In this moment Moses becomes a changed person. The fire burns in his heart and consumes his mind. He has to obey this command, even though it scares him to death. There is a time to wander in the dessert and a time to leave and go into the world of suffering to heal and help. 

I dare say everyone has those burning bush moments. It may be when you are young and it may be when you are old. God does not measure time as we do. He may call you as a young person to spend the rest of your life in his work.He may call you when you are nearing the end and in a short time do important work with you. There was a man 60 years old in seminary same time as me. In a few short years God would bless other through this man. 

Be aware of the holy ground on which you stand at any moment. Listen…..

Who we are

"…for being an elder turns much more on who we are than what we say. It is a quality of presence, a grace and integrity  shining through an older person, that most inspires others." (Weavings May/June/July 2016)

I understand the relevance of this as one lives into elder years of life; however I believe that from youth and all through life the most powerful influence one has is more in who he/she is than what they say. 

So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart. (Psalm 90:12) -

“Even in the most wrenching situations, we have to find ways to discern how God is leading us.”(Benjamin Brown, Friends Journal)- Disciples of Christ find that being centered in the Spirit does not make the way always clear and easy. Sometimes we wait in silence and darkness for a Word from the Lord and seems not to get a answer. “But those who hope/wait in the Lord will renew their strength.” (Is. 40:31) and this is TRUE.

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." (Romans 15:13) -

Lord, help me live this day in the experience that with you I can do more than I think I can. I also pray this for each person reading these words. Amen
