Failure Test

I read about the Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation holding "failure fest". At this time they consider investments they have made in projects that went "bust". The purpose is to learn from these, turn these failures into discovery opportunities as they move forward. The point is failure is opportunity to learn, improve and sometimes go in a whole new direction. It is ok to fail. If you accomplish anything in life you are certain to fail along the way. The way I see it God, Christ suffered failure, otherwise there would be no need for Christmas, Easter, Passover…..There are plenty of places I made mistakes and failures as husband, parent, preacher, human being. But I have a lot of company and Grace embraces us everyone……Bless you….

He is in Control

"He knows all, does all: He changes the seasons and guides history…." —Daniel 2:21 MSG

This thought is beyond my comprehension. In the setting of chaos, violence, fears, financial concerns,  medical care insecurity….to say God is in control is laughable to some people. It is not my job to prove or disprove the validity of this scripture. I bear witness to it from the depths of my soul and from a level of understanding that establishes me in faith. Be confident, face forward, move on into …….God is with you.

We awaken this day to celebrate the birthday of: IMMANUEL = "God is with us."

Quietly I sit waiting. What does this birthday matter to me, to my life?

I have been sitting here waiting for my mind to come up with imagining life without God. 

Empty, nothing, lost, without purpose….

Truth is I simply would not exist…..

I am grateful there is IMMANUEL

I think back through my life as early as I can remember and give thanks that mother made sure I know 

God is with me, you, everyone…..

SERVICE

The Word today is          SERVICE        Jesus said, "I came to serve and not to be served." (Matt. 20:28)       A young man or woman standing at the entrance to Kroger singing and making beautiful music inviting us to drop some money in the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle. It is cold, and the hours are long, but they serve anyway. Our eyes open we see little moments of persons serving. In our busy going about we see someone with some need for a helping hand and we help as we move about doing our checklist.  

 

Biscuits

A minister was attending a men's breakfast.  He asked one of the old time farmers to say the prayer that morning. 

The farmer began; "Lord I hate buttermilk."  The pastor opened one eye and wondered where this was going.

The farmer continued, "And Lord I hate lard."  Now the pastor was worried. 

 

The farmer prayed on, "And you know Lord I don't care too much for raw flour."

 

The pastor was just about to stop everything when the farmer said;

"But Lord, when You mixiz'em all together and bakes 'em up; I love me some biscuits.  So Lord, when we don't understand what is happening; when life gets hard; when things come up we don't like; whenever we just don't understand what You are telling us, then we need to just relax and wait 'till You are done fixing what You are fixing, and probably it will be something even better than biscuits."

 

Romans 8:28 says, "God works for the good of all those who love Him."     

Love

faith, hope, love and the greatest of these is  LOVE

While listening to the CNN Heroes program Sunday evening, I made notes of what I was hearing and they speak to where we are in the world.

LOVE HEALS    

        Love is the most powerful force in the world.

Find the work God wants you to do loving this world.

Heroes all over the world are doing works of love helping people in every kind of need.

Regular, everyday heroes engaged in healing love.

We all have talent to do works of love

With love and motivation you will succeed. 

You do not need to be a "religious" person to do works of love.

You do need to be a compassionate person and that comes from the heart.

Peace

The Word today is: PEACE

The "eye of the storm" is calm, quiet. Winds blow and uproot, but there is a place at the center that is calm. 

"…my peace I give you…" (John 14:27)  …eventually the storm passes and peace prevails….

Today's Word: FAITH

The word today is 

faith 

Levels of truth are not yet seen but experienced because our faith connects us with the One who comes in the birth of a little baby…..innocent, small, fragile, dependent, but indestructable. Not even the kings of that day could destroy him because God was his protection, caring for his need…..faith sees what is unseen, knows what is not known and keeps us on the path of truth and Eternal Purpose…….

Nature Embraces Injury

 

Much of life is lived in transitions. Often transitions happen in response to trama or unexpected life changes. How we respond makes all the difference in what is to come. “…while there’s always the option to quit and run, working your way through a tragedy can sometimes be the best way to move forward.” (Ted Turner,Call Me Ted) 

 

It is helpful to note that Nature embraces injury and keeps on growing.

A Prayer for the President

A prayer for the President —  Teach the President to judge with your righteousness, O God……May the land enjoy prosperity; may it experience righteousness. May the President  judge the poor fairly; may he help the needy and defeat their oppressors. …..May your people worship you as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon gives light, for ages to come. (Psalms 72:1-5)

As we contemplate the birth of the baby Jesus it is well to pay attention to the reason he was born and take seriously God's saving plan rises above all.

Forgiveness

"If you forgive someone's sins, they're gone for good. If you don't forgive sins, what are you going to do with them?"

John 20:22-23 MSG

This is the Word that spoke to me this morning. When someone says or does something against me or hurts me, if I forgive them, it's done and I turn my attention to other things, including building a better relationship with the one who offended me. But what got my attention are the next words. If I don't forgive the offense what am I going to do with it? My mind festers, my anger stirs, my imagination takes off in unhealthy directions and I evade that person. I am distracted from engaging my mind and being in positive, good, kind behavior. When around that person my face shows my bad attitude. What am I going to do with the trashy feelings in me??? I really need to mark it off and get on with matters of the present and be the wiser for having the experience.
