Last Word

WHEN WE ARE HAVING SAD OR DIFFICULT MOMENTS/DAYS IT IS WELL TO REMEMBER THE GOODNESS OF GOD IS THE CORE OF ALL LIFE AND WILL HAVE THE LAST WORD. THEREIN IS OUR FAITH.

Look Forward

"I do not claim that I have already succeeded or have already become perfect. I keep striving to win the prize….the one thing I do…is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead…I run ..toward the goal…which is God's call through Christ Jesus to the life above." (Philippians 3:12-14) - Everything in this reading is looking forward, not behind. This is a timeless and a timely truth about life. It is as relevant at 100 years old as at 1 year old. The living, growing, learning, serving curve of life is always in the moment, in each heartbeat, each breath.Of course when you are a old man your view of forward looking is different from when a young man or woman…..No matter where you are on the age scale it is of paramount importance to keep focused on God's call in your mind and heart……then all else will come out right in the end……Peace and love….

Aim For The Hole

IT IS SAID THAT SOMEONE ASKED ARNOLD PALMER WHAT IS THE SECRET OF HIM HITTING SO MANY ACES. PALMER SAID, "IT'S SIMPLE; JUST AIM FOR THE HOLE." — i think i will try this out in the living of this day.

Inner

"Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations….." (Psalms 90:1) - I hear this speaking to life in our minds and hearts. We live in a physical setting but our inner awareness is the true place of life. It is here that we perceive beauty, feel love and compassion, kindness, forgiveness toward others…..It is within that we know God and inner peace. The psalmist confesses awareness of life in God. He realizes there is no life apart from Holy Spirit; therefore he is at home with himself/with God as his soul dwells for a while in this world in this body.

                DWELLING PLACE/HOME
                LIFE IS INWARD
                AWARENESS UP FROM DEEP
                   WITHIN US
BEFORE ALL ELSE HAS BEEN, IS, WILL BE
                   IS GOD

                THUS IS OUR  INNER PEACE
                GOD'S DWELLING PLACE
                    IS WITH-IN YOU, ME

                WITHIN IS HOME
                IS GOD

Jimmy Carter

I LISTENED TO FORMER PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER GIVE A NEWS UPDATE ON HIS CANCER. WITHOUT ANY FANFARE HE LET THE CARING PUBLIC HEAR HIS THOUGHTS AND PLAN FOR THE FUTURE. WHILE HE DOES NOT MAKE GREAT NOISE ABOUT IT HIS FAITH AND COMMITMENT TO JESUS CHRIST IS THE CORE OF HIS LIFE. AS I LISTENED I FELT THE REASSURANCE OF LIVING OUR LIVES IN SIMPLE CHILDLIKE TRUST OF OUR HEAVENLY FATHER. HERE IS A MAN WHO HAS LIVED A FULL AND WONDERFUL LIFE SPENDING HIMSELF IN SERVING OTHERS ACCORDING TO HIS ABILITY AND OPPORTUNITY. NOW AS THE SHADOWS BEGIN TO CAST UPON HIM, HE SIMPLY SAYS HE IS TRUSTING GOD AND HIS MEDICAL TEAM AT EMORY. WHATEVER HAPPENS WILL BE OK AND HE IS AT PEACE. THIS IS REALLY WHAT LIFE IS ALL ABOUT. "JESUS LOVES ME. THIS I KNOW FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO." WHEN HIS HUMAN LIGHT GOES OUT, HE WILL NOT BE REMEMBERED FOR HIS "FAILURES" BUT FOR HIS SERVANTHOOD.

Take the risk and live

>
> YOU KNOW THAT UNDER PRESSURE YOUR FAITH-LIFE IS FORCED INTO THE OPEN AND SHOWS ITS TRUE COLORS. SO DON'T TRY TO GET OUT OF ANYTHING PREMATURELY. LET IT DO ITS WORK SO YOU BECOME MATURE AND WELL-DEVELOPED, NOT DEFICIENT IN ANY WAY. (James 1:3,4) That is one take on what James had to say about faith-living. Another is — The circumstances you are in serve to inform, shape, define you.= Another place in scripture the writer says that he has learned to be content no matter what may be his situation.-- Bottom line? Take the risk and LIVE.

God's Word All Around Us

"Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit…" - These words have become a frequent prayer for me. Before I realized it I thought this was a verse of scripture, then I realized they are part of the service of Holy Communion found in the Book of Worship (UMC). While it is true that Methodist have long been "People of The Book" , we are not confined only to the truth found in the Bible. We are also open to the true that come beyond the Bible. Our foundation is the Biblical word but Holy Spirit speaks universally. So, be open to the Word that surprises you at any time and any place and from any person….And from deep inside my mind comes the words..CLEANSE THE THOUGHTS OF MY HEART BY THE INSPIRATION OF THY HOLY SPIRIT…that I may life in truth and love in the moment of hardness and always…..

Thanks be to God whose Word is all around us and within us….

Saved

>
>
> "…but he who stands firm to the end will be saved…" (Matthew 24:13) — When I first read the scripture seriously I was in my teens. I had no contextual knowledge of the Bible. I simply read it until some meaning or truth stood out and spoke to me. In that moment I was instructed and tried to live by the Word that came alive to me. Now I look back across the years and I have learned a lot about studying the Bible historically. While that is important, it is still more important to me that I read listening until I hear something that speaks to me now. That is mainly what I did in preparing sermons. Today as I read the word that spoke out strong and clear is the importance of standing firm and faithful in my trust of God no matter how hard life is at the moment. In the end God will not let me go down the drain into the septic tank of destruction. That is the Word lighting my way today. — I pray for you the Word that lights your way….

three legged stool

BE JOYFUL IN HOPE, PATIENT IN AFFLICTION, FAITHFUL IN PRAYER. (Romans 12: 12) -  this three legged stool supports us because the invisible leg is God's love and grace.

Integrity

"INTEGRITY IS DOING THE RIGHT THING, EVEN WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING." (C.S. Lewis) - even if it is not politically correct, you do what is right. I read, "..imagine if birds only sang when heard. If musicians only played when approved of. If poets only spoke when understood. (Mark Nepo) - Even though we have a need to be accepted and approved, we have a greater need to be true to who we are. God did not create us like someone else, God created you and me like no body else. We are to live true to our nature.. and our nature is greatly influenced by the Creator but still unique to ourselves. No one can show love like I can and on one can show love like you can. Be yourself, do right even when no one is looking. — well, you get the idea, add your own insights...

Faith

NOW FAITH IS THE ASSURANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR, THE CONVICTION OF THINGS NOT SEEN. (Hebrews 11:1) - distractions, objects, words, voices, prejudices, anger, guns, cars, tools and the list goes on and on of things that capture our attention until we begin to think that this is life. However deep inside our awareness we know there is more, we know life is more than the stuff around us. We look beyond all that we see to behold the realities we do not see. Someone is weeping because a child has been murdered and we hear her cry out to God. The heart knows there is one who listens and cares……someone we love is suffering and we hear her say, "Lord help me.." to the unseen Presence…..

Re: wedding on Sept 19

Cyndee

Could we get an appointment with someone to meet there at the chapel next Tuesday afternoon?   Maybe at 3:30 or 4 pm?

Drew,

I spoke with Dr. Mooneyhan (the current Pastor of TUMC) about your wanting to have your wedding here.  He said it should be no problem.  Our normal fee for rental of the Chapel is $300, but we can discount it to $150.  This would help with the cost of lights, air conditioning, etc.  We would also have to charge the normal custodial fee of $50, which goes directly to our custodian who would come clean after, open the Chapel and lock it back up.

You mentioned a reception.  Are you wishing to have that at TUMC as well, or will that be somewhere else?  Dr. Mooneyhan said we would have to charge the normal rental & custodial fee for the Fellowship Hall if you choose to use it.  The policy and fees are included in the "Wedding Policy" I emailed your father yesterday.  The policy for caterers is also explained in it.

There will not be anyone available on the weekend to meet you and show you the Chapel.  You would have to schedule an appointment to come Monday-Thursday, 9:00 am-5:00 pm, when someone is in the church office.

Please let us know if we can help you!

Subject: wedding on Sept 19

Wedding Director,

I reached out after receiving your standard policies and forms but couldn't get an answer.  We are interested in coming to see the Chapel this weekend if someone could meet us.

While we are not members, my grandparents were long term members and are buried there at Tuckston.   My mom and dad were married in what is now the chapel.   And my father retired after 50 years of service as a Pastor in the North GA Conference of the UMC.

We are not looking to have a full blown formal wedding which would require a director and all of the bells and whistles.  We are truly just wanting a small service performed by my dad with maybe 20 - 30 people, followed by a quaint little reception for these family and friends.   Tuckston has so much history for me and my family that we would really like to do this there in the Chapel but I need my bride to come see it first.

Who would we talk to and could we come see it and meet someone Saturday or Sunday?

FW: thought

The whole of creation is the Body of Christ. How can this not be if Holy Spirit is in all and nothing can be without the breath of Spirit? One writer said, "Just to be is a blessing; just to live is holy."(Robert Lax). That same writer expressed a deep longing to hear God/Christ say, "I have always been here, and you have always been my child, and I have always loved you." Another writer long ago expressed his awareness of the Christ Nature, "For in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible…all things have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together." (Col. 1:16-17, NRSV). St. Augustine said, "our hearts are restless until they rest in God." (Confessions)….these various expressions of insight, understanding, experiencing God speak to me. Too long have we separated Spirit from matter, flesh. Too much has the world, earth, heavens been seen as out there and God is who knows where? It is great comfort to realize that any direction I turn, any place I go, any experience I have, anything I feel or think happens in God Presence. Through Christ I have found out that Grace embraces me and holds me carefully and does not reject me under any condition….(well, what do you think?)

The Beautiful Sacrifice

"FOR WHOEVER WANTS TO SAVE HIS OWN LIFE WILL LOSE IT; BUT WHOEVER LOSES HIS LIFE FOR MY SAKE WILL FIND IT." (Matthew 16:25) — These words are spoken in relation to the suffering and death facing Jesus. The disciples did not want to hear this talk. Peter challenged Jesus to not talk this way. Jesus faced it front center and said to Peter there are things more important than keeping yourself alive in this body. My life belongs to God. My purpose is to do the work God has given me and in this time that work is to face the enemy and die for what I know is right so that you and all humanity may know the freedom and forgiveness of God in your inner self. God knows we are not perfect, that we cannot live without experiencing pain, sadness, guilt, failure, loneliness….but trusting Christ and accepting his life of Love we can repeatedly experience renewal, hope, starting again, cutting lose from the mistakes and wrongs of the past and live in the freedom and joy of the present……….continue these thoughts in your own meaning of this truth…..
